What Do I Need to Know About Pet Surgery At Central Boulevard Veterinary Hospital?
A referral is not needed, but one of our veterinarians must examine your pet to assess the need and immediacy of surgery. For orthopedic cases, radiographs are taken for evaluation by our board-certified surgeon. Our surgeon is also available for phone consultations for an additional fee. Post-operative staple or suture removal and the first set of post-operative x-rays (if needed) are included in the cost of surgery. We endeavor to price match many types of specialized or orthopedic procedures; please provide an estimate from another hospital if you wish to inquire about a price match.
What Can I Expect The Day Of Surgery?
Surgery patients must be dropped off by 9:00 AM the day of the scheduled procedure. Our dedicated surgery team works closely throughout the day to maintain the best care and monitoring of your pet. Your pet stays with us the majority of the day for post-operative care, IV fluid therapy, pain management, antibiotics, and monitoring so we can ensure they are recovering safely and comfortably. To manage pain, our surgeon offers Nocita, a long-acting local anesthetic that is injected into the surgical site post-operatively and provides up to 72 hours of pain relief.
How Will I Care For My Pet After Surgery?
Our surgery team will provide detailed recovery instructions for each patient, which will vary based on the type of procedure. Many recovery plans will include a combination of medications, a period of close supervision and rest, and a careful return to normal activity. We will also schedule a time for you to return for post-operative staple or suture removal and the first set of post-operative x-rays (if needed), which are included in the cost of surgery.
